Folk workshop with Jessie Thompson

It’s time for Pop Chorus to become ‘Folk Chorus’ – this November we’re having a musical ‘campfire’ at Hacheston Village Hall!

Come and enjoy a morning immersed in this most accessible of musical genres – literally the music of the people. These are songs born from everyday life, shared by voices like ours. And we’re going to be guided on a whistlestop tour by renowned ‘folkal’ coach Jessie Thompson (complete with her accordion).

Jessie will take us through a variety of folk songs, from ballads and storytelling, to sea shanties and working rhythms, plus we’ll explore harmonising using the Jon Boden Colourchord system. You’ll leave having experienced the deep vocal connection of real voices and a shared energy, and having gained an understanding of how folk music connects us emotionally and socially.

An enthusiastic and warm workshop leader, Jessie has an MA in Traditional and World Music, and is currently diving into the fascinating world of English folk singing styles as part of her PhD studies. With 20 years of experience leading choirs in various genres, she has found her true passion in leading folk choirs and workshops.

Tickets available to Pop Chorus members and friends & family: £20 Adults or £10 U16s (each including £1 per ticket booking fee), with Essential Companions free. Doors 9:45am, session 10am-12:30pm including a break (and observation of 2 minutes’ silence at 11am). The venue is disabled-friendly, but please let us know of any special requirements.
